Forgotten snowshoes rejoice!
Snowshoe Scuttle to raise funds for Mill of Kintail and local girl’s hockey

February 3, 2012—Ever wondered what to do with the snowshoes hanging in your garage that never seem to get used?  Now is your chance to get them off the wall and onto some snowy trails for a fun filled Snowshoe Scuttle on Sunday, February 26 at the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area.

The Carleton Place Girls Hockey Association, along with the Mill of Kintail, invite you to bring friends and family to take part in our first ever snowshoe event.  The scenic—and easy—three kilometre route encompasses two popular site trails, the Riverside along the Indian River and the forested McKenzie Loop. The course is perfect for all ages and those new to snowshoeing.

Participants are encouraged to challenge themselves by repeating the loop two or three times, to make it a six- or nine kilometre course.

“What is great about this style of course is you don’t have to decide ahead of time what distance you want to do.  We encourage participants to complete one loop and then do a second or third one if they feel up to it,” explains event coordinator, Kristy Giles.

The Mill of Kintail is proud to be the site for this great event and share support for athletics in the community.

“The Mill of Kintail Conservation Area is truly an ideal location for snowshoeing.  The trails are short loops through beautiful settings. We are certain participants will enjoy themselves, no matter what their fitness level and snow shoeing experience,” adds Stephanie Kolsters museum manager and site coordinator.

Registration is event day-only beginning at 10 a.m. in the Gatehouse at the entrance to the conservation area. The race starts at 11 a.m. All participants receive a commemorative “No Guts No Glory” snowboard beanie hat; a memento of a fun filled day, doing something different in a beautiful outdoor setting. Participants must bring their own snowshoes.

A minimum $35 pledge is required for entry into the event.  Pledge forms are available at Vamos Outdoors, Mill Street in Almonte or download PLEDGE FORM here.
