Purpose:

This GIS layer and associated table was developed to assist in demonstrating various flood elevations defined within the Mississippi River Flood Risk Mapping Series in conjunction with HEC-2 WATER SURFACE PROFILES; Version   4.6.2.

Summary:

Cross sectional lines were achieved through a digital rectification process using the MVC Flood Risk Mapping series.  Data resulting from HEC-2 Water Surface Profile modeling was joined to associated cross-sections based on reach and cross-sectional identification number.  This data includes 100, 50, 25, 10, and 5 year flood event elevations.

Data Type:

Geodatabase feature class

Data Extent:

The extent of this dataset is currently limited to MVC reaches including Cody Creek, Carp River, Indian River, and Mississippi River from Ottawa River to Mississippi Lake.

Time stamp:

Data is current to October 2011

Attribute table metadata

Object ID: the unique ID assigned to each feature

Elevation: elevation as it appears on the Flood Risk Mapping series

OID: object number used to reference join made from HEC-2 profile data

Section: refers to the cross-section identification number (not a unique value)

N100_YR: elevation of the 100 year flood line pertaining to the corresponding cross-section

N50_YR: elevation of the 50 year flood line pertaining to the corresponding cross-section

N25_YR: elevation of the 25 year flood line pertaining to the corresponding cross-section

N10_YR: elevation of the 10 year flood line pertaining to the corresponding cross-section

N5_YR: elevation of the 5 year flood line pertaining to the corresponding cross-section

Reach_Name: identifies the water body to which the cross-section belongs

Important Details:

Section IDs, demonstrated in the ‘Section’ field are not unique IDs.  It is important to note the ‘Reach_Name’ field when referencing cross-sectional IDs as the ID numbers may be repeated within alternate reaches.  The Section ID is a reference which is relative to the upstream distance the cross-section lies from the stream basin.

For more detailed information pertaining to this data please contact the MVC office.

Access constraints and limitations:

Access is limited to CAMaps.ca.  This dataset links cross–sectional lines to flood elevation only.  For further information associated with these cross-sections contact the MVC office. This is a sample dataset in which not all flood risk areas incorporated in the MVC Flood Risk Mapping Series have been included.
