Watershed Conditions Bulletin - March 5, 2010 |
|
The Mississippi Valley Conservation (MVC) long range flood forecast is for average to below average flood conditions based on the results of snow surveys carried out on March 1and 2 and the assumption of normal precipitation levels over the next few weeks. However, there is always the potential for this forecast to change based on rain and snow accumulation between now and the end of April.
The forecast of warmer temperatures over the next few days, coupled with current snow pack conditions, will likely result in increased flows in the smaller creeks and ditches.
While MVC does not anticipate any significant flooding at this time, ice conditions on area waterways are expected to begin to deteriorate rapidly with the warmer weather and residents are advised to stay off waterways and use extreme caution when around them. Parents are encouraged to warn their children about the dangers of playing on or near ice covered surfaces and/or fast flowing water in ditches and smaller creeks.
MVC monitors water levels and flows daily. This information is now available on the website at www.mvc.on.ca.
