| Flood Advisory Update - July 27, 2009 |
|
Mississippi Valley Conservation (MVC) is issuing an update to the FLOOD ADVISORY for the CARP RIVER issued July 25, 2009. Water levels on the Carp River peaked Saturday evening and have been receding slowly. This trend is expected to continue unless significant rainfall occurs over the next two or three days. Currents in this river and several smaller creeks in the Ottawa area remain very strong at this time and residents are urged to ensure their children and animals stay away from the these areas for at least the next few days when flows are expected to return to more normal conditions for this time of year. The MVC flood forecasting and warning program includes: monitoring weather conditions, measuring water content of snowpack, estimating expected river flows and water levels and issuing flood advisories or warnings as required. In a flood situation, the conservation authority provides early warning and continuous monitoring and analysis through the event to municipal and provincial emergency response personnel regarding the expected severity and duration of the event. MVC will continue to monitor the conditions; however, no further updates will be issued for this event.
