| FLOOD ADVISORY - UPDATE April 28, 2011 |
|
This is an UPDATE to the FLOOD ADVISORY issued April 21, 2011 by Mississippi Valley Conservation (MVC). Water levels on Dalhousie Lake are expected to increase another 15 to 20 cm above the current level over the next three to four days due to recent rainfall accumulations. This will result in an elevation of 157.35 m to 157.40 m which is above normal spring elevations for the lake. Water levels on Mississippi Lake have remained stable since Easter weekend but are expected to rise an additional 10 to 20 cm above current levels as flows increase in the upper portion of the watershed. The upper portion of the watershed is expected to peak by early next week barring any further significant rainfall events. Wave run up, due to high winds, may also increase levels. Residents are advised to maintain a close watch on levels through the weekend. Daily water levels and flows are available on the MVC website at www.mvc.on.ca. Levels are not expected to drop substantially on Mississippi and Dalhousie lakes before the end of next week. Flows in the Indian, Clyde, and Carp Rivers have started to increase again but this is not expected to continue beyond tomorrow. No significant additional flooding is anticipated along those watercourses. MVC will continue to monitor the conditions and issue update as forecasts are revised. Spring water conditions pose a serious threat. Water levels can rise in a short period of time and near freezing water temperatures can quickly produce hypothermia. Parents are reminded to warn children to stay away from all watercourses and ditches during this time. |
