WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT November 9, 2011
Levels and flows in the Mississippi River remain stable due to the management of the system which includes the annual fall drawdown of the upper lakes that began after the Thanksgiving long weekend. This action provides additional flows in the lower portion of the watershed, the area from Dalhousie Lake to the City of Ottawa.

The prolonged dry conditions have caused several streams and wetland areas to be dry. This will impact both the plants and animals in those areas particularly if conditions persist into the winter. This is a natural process that can only be mitigated by rainfall.

Area residents and industries are urged to conserve the use of water and are advised to use caution when venturing out on area waterways as additional shoals or other obstacles in the water may be exposed due to the lower water levels.

Find tips on conserving water and daily water levels and flows on the MVC website at www.mvc.on.ca.

The Mississippi Valley Conservation water management program monitors weather conditions, river flows and water levels and issues watershed conditions statements as required.
