Watershed Conditions Bulletin Update March 24 2009

This is an update to the March 6 Watershed Conditions Bulletin issued by Mississippi Valley Conservation (MVC) to advise member municipalities of general conditions throughout the Mississippi Valley watershed. Please forward it on to the appropriate staff. Updates will be issued as forecasts and conditions change. Please contact the MVC office if you have any questions regarding this information.

Water levels and flows along area waterways are steadily increasing and are expected to continue this trend with the warmer weather and the precipitation forecasted over the next few days. Flows in smaller creeks may increase rapidly over the next few days depending on the amount of precipitation received this weekend. We do not anticipate any significant flooding at this time but want to emphasize to parents that they continue to warn their children about the dangers of playing on or near ice covered surfaces or fast flowing water in ditches and smaller creeks.

Ice conditions on area waterways are beginning to deteriorate rapidly with the warmer weather and area residents are advised that no one should be venturing out onto ice covered waterways.

Based on current conditions, the MVC long range forecast is for below average flood potential. However, there is always the potential for this forecast to change based on rain and snow accumulation between now and the end of April.
