| Watershed Conditions Bulletin March 6 2009 |
|
This is a bulletin to advise member municipalities of general conditions throughout the Mississippi Valley Watershed. Please forward it on to the appropriate staff. Updates will be issued as forecasts and conditions change. Please contact the Mississippi Valley Conservation office if you have any questions regarding this information.
The forecast of warmer temperatures over the next few days, coupled with current snow pack conditions, will likely results in flows in the smaller creeks and ditches increasing over that time frame. We do not anticipate any significant flooding at this time but want to emphasize to parents that they continue to warn their children about the dangers of playing on or near ice covered surfaces or fast flowing water in ditches and smaller creeks. Ice conditions on area waterways are also expected to begin to deteriorate rapidly with the warmer weather and area residents are advised to use extreme caution if venturing out onto ice covered bodies of water. Based on current conditions, the MVC long range forecast is for below average flood potential. However, there is always the potential for this forecast to change based on rain and snow accumulation between now and the end of April. |
