WATERSHED WATCH BENNETT LAKE LOCATION: Bennett Lake is located in the newly amalgamated Township of Bathurst, Burgess and Sherbrooke, west of Fallbrook. SIZE / DEPTH: Maximum Depth - 12.2 metres Mean Depth - 4.4 metres Length - 10 kilometres Perimetre - 28 kilometres Width - 0.8 kilometres QUALITY: In general the water quality in Bennett Lake is good. The average Secchi Disk reading in 2001 was 3.5 metres, indicating Bennett Lake as a moderately enriched (some nutrients) or mesotrophic lake. Directly related to water clarity is the amount of nutrients entering the lake in particular phosphorus. The Provincial Water Quality Objectives for Total Phosphorus for Bennett Lake is 20 micrograms per litre. The average for the two stations in the euphotic zone (penetration of light) for 2001 is 12.25 micrograms per litre, indicating a moderately enriched or mesotrophic lake. Chlorophyll a is a measure of algal densities in the lake. The average chlorophyll a densities in 2001 was 5.32 micrograms per litter, indicating a high algal density for Bennett Lake in 2001.
