WATERSHED WATCH CLEAR LAKE LOCATION: Clear Lake is located off of Highway # 7, south of Silver Lake Provincial Park SIZE / DEPTH: Maximum Depth - 4.5 metres Length - 1.6 kilometres Perimetre - 2.8 kilometres Width - 0.25 kilometres QUALITY: In general the water quality in Clear Lake is good. The average reading with the Secchi Disk was 3.2 metres indicating Clear Lake as a moderately enriched (some nutrients) or mesotrophic lake. Directly related to water clarity is the amount of nutrients entering the lake, in particular phosphorus. The Provincial Water Quality objectives for Total Phosphorus for Clear Lake is 20 micrograms per litre. The mean for the euphotic zone (penetration of light) is 13.8 micrograms per litre indicating a moderately enriched or mesotrophic lake. The mean for the sample taken one metre off the bottom is 14.5 micrograms per litre indicating a moderately enriched lake. Chlorophyll a is a measure of the algal density in the lake. The average chlorophyll a density is 4.21 micrograms per litre indicating a high algal density for Clear Lake in 2001.
