WATERSHED WATCH MACKAVOY LAKE LOCATION: Mackavoy Lake is located in the Township of Addington Highlands, and is approximately 6.4 kilometres upstream from Mazinaw Lake. SIZE / DEPTH: Mackavoy Lake runs in the North-South direction, roughly triangular in shape and is approximately 1200 feet wide at the north end and narrows to 225 feet at its southern limits. Length - 1.6 kilometres Shoreline Length - 2.8 kilometres Surface area - 65 acres Maximum Depth - 213 metres QUALITY: In general the water quality in Mackavoy Lake is good, and has changed very little since 1971. Directly related to water clarity is the amount of nutrients entering the lake, the key nutrients of concern is Phosphorous. Total Phosphorous levels in 1998 remain well below the Provincial Objective of 20 micrograms per litre. Chlorophyll a, the green pigment found in algae, has not increased since 1971. Levels average 1.2 micrograms/litre indicating an unenriched or an Oligotrophic lake with low algal density. SURROUNDING LAND: # of Cottages - 7 (as of 1971) # of Trailer Parks - 1 privately operated, public access point and beach at north end.(as of 1971) East shore of lake remains undeveloped, as a result of its rough and rocky terrain and inaccessibility by road.
