WATERSHED WATCH SAND LAKE LOCATION: Sand Lake is located south-west of Plevna, in the Township of North Frontenac. SIZE / DEPTH: Length - 3 kilometres Width - 0.6 kilometres Area Surface - 1.77 kilometres squared Maximum Depth - 21.3 metres. QUALITY: In general the water quality in Sand Lake remains very good. Chlorophyll a, the green pigment found in algae has decreased since 1976. The average concentration in 1999 was 1.16 micrograms per liter indicating an unenriched lake with few nutrients. Oxygen concentrations in the deep water portions are reduced in late summer, there is little oxygen remaining below 11 metres depth by mid September. However, oxygen values are adequate to support many warm water fish species.
