SHAWENEGOG LAKE (McClintock Lake)

LOCATION:
Shawenegog Lake is located in the Township of North Frontenac, 10.4 kilometres southwest of Plevna, a small village on Highway 506.

SIZE / DEPTH:
Length - 3.5 kilometres
Width - 0.5 kilometres
Water surface - 460 acres
Shoreline length - 3.5 kilometres
Maximum Depth - 25.6 metres

QUALITY:
In general the water quality in Shawenegog Lake remains very good. The water clarity has declined marginally in the north basin and by 1 metre in the south basin since 1976. There was a marginal increase in phosphorous from 1976 to 1999 in the north basin and a significant increase in the south basin from 10.2 to 14.5 micrograms per litre. Chlorophyll a is the green pigment found in algae, densities have declined in both basins between 1976 and 1999. Current results indicate that Shawenegog Lake is a moderately enriched lake.

ACCESS:
Shawenegog Lake is accessible via the Buckshot Lake Road west of Plevna. No facilities have been established on this lake (1976).
